Tooth Coloured Fillings
A filling is used to repair teeth that have been damaged by tooth decay, or sometimes injury.
Traditionally, fillings were made from amalgam, but these are easily visible in the mouth, and many people don’t want others to be able to see their fillings when they laugh or talk. At Ash Aesthetics, we are pleased to offer a safer, more natural-looking alternative: white fillings.
White fillings are made from dental composite, which contains a light sensitive agent along with quartz resin. These fillings look perfectly natural and at Ash Aesthetics we can fit them in one single appointment. They can be used on both the front and back teeth, and we have a variety of different shades available so that you can choose the right shade to match your tooth colour.
Some amalgams been replaced by Dr Ash with tooth coloured fillings.
Before bonding the white filling to the tooth, we will first clean the tooth and remove any decay tissue. We will then apply a thin layer of resin to your tooth, which will bond to the affected area. The bonding process makes the filling more durable and modern fillings are much stronger than they used to be.
When the material has been bonded, we will use an intensive light beam to harden the filling. At Ash Aesthetics we use the very latest in plasma technology, which means that the filling is hardened in as little as 6 seconds.
Shaun had a broken amalgam filling that Dr Ash changed for a composite inlay (tooth coloured filling).
For bigger cavities, we sometimes use a composite or porcelain inlay, as they tend to last longer. We usually use porcelain inlays for cosmetic purposes, as they look extremely natural and have a shiny, glossy finish. Inlays are made in our lab and bonded in the dental chair at Ash Aesthetics to really enhance the durability of the filling. These fillings may require 2 appointments, but the finished results are stunning and definitely worth the wait!
